Spent a wonderful evening at the launch of The End at UEA’s Enterprise centre last night. This was a doubly special launch as it was the first showing of the wonderful Nicolas Ruston paintings that inspired the stories in The End: Fifteen Endings to Fifteen Paintings short fiction collection, as well as being the first launch of the stories.
As you can see from this pair of pictures from A.J. Ashworth’s twitter feed, the paintings looked amazing:
And there were eleven more including the image that inspired my story, All The TVs in Town:
The evening consisted of a showing of the fifteen paintings and readings from myself, Aiden O’Reilly, A.J.Ashworth, Tim Sykes, Gordon Collins and editor and Unthank supremo, Ashley Stokes.
It was ace to here so many different takes on The End and I can’t wait to read the rest of the stories now the collection is a real live book you can buy.
As a brilliant surprise, each author was presented with a bottle of The End wine, labelled with the painting and words from their story. Here’s the complete crate:
And here’s my bottle in particular and story excerpt on the back of the bottle:
One of the best things about this writing lark is the great people you meet and events you get to attend and The End launch was an evening of excellent company, great stories and ace art that I will remember for a long time.
