Flash Frontier’s February crop of quality flash fiction is available to read for free on the site’s homepage. In addition, Flash Frontier’s February Feature includes an interview in which I talk about all things short fictiony and the genesis of my soon to be released debut collection of stories. Being interviewed for the site was a thoroughly enjoyable and challenging experience and I would like to thank Rae Joyce for her thoughtful and thought provoking questions.
My interview appears alongside a conversation between two of my favourite writers, Nuala Ní Chonchúir and Ethel Rohan, which feels like a huge honour. Both have written short short stories that have lived inside my head long after I finished reading them and here they discuss the nuts and bolts of writing award winning flash fiction and what competition judges look for when reading entries. Without a doubt they know what works in the form. Essential reading for anyone looking to improve their chances in the many competitions out there.
By the time you read this I’ll be on a train and on my way to teach a flash fiction workshop at Book It! A Literary Celebration. I’ll definitely be pointing the participants in the direction of Nuala and Ethel’s advice.
